Founded in 1974, The Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowships for Women in Graduate Study are co-sponsored by the Monticello Foundation and by Washington University. The fellowship encourages women of exceptional promise to prepare for careers in higher education and the professions. Any female graduate or prospective graduate of an undergraduate institution in the United States who plans to prepare for a career in higher education or the professions is eligible for this Fellowship.

The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship Program (CGFP) was established in 1991 for the purpose of providing strong encouragement as well as generous financial support to outstanding and diverse students interested in careers as college or university professors. The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship provides support for full-time study leading to the completion of the Ph.D. or M.F. A. in most of Washington University's academic programs.

First Year Fellowships are offered to former McNair scholars who are admitted to selected doctoral programs in Arts & Sciences at Washington University. The Fellowship provides full tuition plus an enhanced First Year stipend. Five years of support are guaranteed by a combination of University Fellowships and Assistantships.

Government Agencies/Private Foundations Fellowships

Many government agencies and private foundations offer fellowships for graduate study. All of the fellowships listed below may be used to attend a graduate degree program at Washington University in St. Louis. These favor applicants who are seniors in college, although they will consider applications from recent college graduates who have not started graduate school, and a few of them will permit applications during the first year or two of graduate study.
